Turn on the lights and pull out your sequin dress; it’s Dancing with the Stars time. This new season of DWTS was supposed to be a season of controversy and actual stars. Boy, were they not kidding. With the list of stars announced, instantly you knew that people were going to start talking. I have to be honest; I was one of those people who had mixed reviews of the contestants. I liked the idea of having actual “stars” like David Arquette, and Ricki Lake. To be honest, even having Nancy Grace on the show impressed me. But the idea of Chaz Bono and another Kardashian made me sick.
One of the best things to happen to this season of the show was the addition of a brand new stage, FINALLY! Ever since they had acoustic night in season 11, I wanted a new stage just like that. I loved the idea of the circular stage and being above everyone else. Well, at least they got one thing on my list. I loved the balconies and the idea of the “fishbowl” not being so noticeable. They were supposed to have grander entrances and they weren’t because there were lights on half of them. Then it took them almost 20 minutes for them to get the rest of the stage/band fixed. I understand that it was the first episode and all but come on it still shouldn’t take hours to get the stage set.
Now I normally talk about everyone’s performance every week. I decided that I am going to only talk about the people who stand out good or bad. Why? Because I am tired of creating words for the people who are boring like Rob Kardashian.
· Chynna Phillips was good for the first time of round on the floor. One thing that bothered me about her dance was when Len said that she had the best first dance. That is not true! I do remember him saying that about Kristie Alley, Sabrina Bryan, and so many more. It was good but it was not as good as the judges said it was.
· I was really excited to see David Arquette. But he disappointed me. He was a little too caught up in the moment. He over exaggerated his arm swings a little and that threw off his balance. I think he will do so much better in Latin next week.
· Elisabetta Canalis was all over the place. I knew instantly when they had the bed and even when they were walking down the stairs Len wouldn’t like it. Val was shirtless, and they had a bed prop which is not allowed in Len’s Ballroom. How many seasons will we have to hear that he doesn’t like that stuff? Professional dancers should have it permanently tattooed in their brains by now. Too bad Val didn’t get that memo from his brother.
· Hope Solo was good. She was not as good as other athlete’s have been week 1 but she was still good. The main problem I have with her dancing was her shoulders in hold. She looked like her shoulders were carrying the weight of the world and she was so stiff.
· Carson Kressley was just as amazing as I thought he would be. So much fun. I loved every second of his routine. And his opening shot, with “sale over there” was priceless. Because ABC was trying to get more “stars” this year they agreed that they could choose their own music, and costumes. And the fashion expert turned it out for Anna but I hated his outfit. He had so much extra fabric in his jacket it looked like they forgot to take it in.
· JR Martinez had everything that I was looking for in David’s dance. The boy has moves. I was very impressed. They could go far. Wow.
· Ricki Lake was OK and not as good as I thought she should have been. Nerves got the best of her.
It should be an interesting season I guess. Who stood out to you?
